Description
Park Point Overlook with Sleeping Ute Mountain in the distance. As per Ute Indian legend, the Sleeping Ute Mountain is the shape it is because it resembles a Great Warrior God who fell asleep while recovering from a battle injury, only to turn into a rocky form whose open wounds became rivers. He is lying on his back, and his head points toward the north and his arms are folded across his chest. When fog or clouds settle over the sleeping Warrior God, it is a sign that he is changing his blankets for the season. A light green blanket heralds spring; the dark green brings summer. Yellow and red are fall colors, and white is winter.
